I find I tend towards what I call extreme objectivity.
If I understand a person’s motives, I find it impossible to hate them, no matter how nefarious their actions. Other people will say “crazy bitch sociopath”, I will say “blatted because of x y z”. They are operating along some line of reasoning, warped though it may be.
It’s like the opposite of “battered wife syndrome”. I don’t rationalize people’s rational behaviour, I just realize how much of their own rationalization goes into it.
This can be positive because, as I have been developing more confidence, I find that I’ve become extremely adept at “talking people down”, which is probably the best line of self defense out there. If someone is attacking you, or behaving destructively, it is most likely because they have formed irrational ideas about you or the world or themselves, and if you can deflate these ideas…
This can be negative because without conventions or confidence, it can (and definitely has) result in apathy and passivity, which can be taken advantage of and exploited.
