And this is why independence and individualism are hallmarks of INTJs. “I just realize how much of their own rationalization goes into it.” — perfect. I find so few people recognize the equal legitimacy of rationalization that is not their own.
Hm, this independence and individualism thing you’re on…
It’s not my respect for a person’s autonomy that stops me from hating them or classifying them as “crazy”, etc. It’s just the fact that I can understand that some people take completely different modes of perceiving reality than I do, and that this causes them to behave the way they do, believing for a certain amount of time that their actions are justified because of x y z.
This does not mean that I think their view is valid, because I don’t. As I stated later on in the post, I will do my best to “talk them down”. Show them how their beliefs are not congruent with reality, and how their minor delusions are negatively affecting themselves and others (on a case by case basis).
I will NOT however pass any judgement on them as a person. I will not label them, I will not hold a grudge, I will not ostracize, etc. etc. If not directly involved in their life, I will remain completely passive and indifferent. If actually involved in their life, especially if their behaviour is negatively affecting me, or if I Fi care about them from previous experience, I will most definitely intervene.
I guess the cause of your misinterpretation is the fact that you are implying that I (or “INTJs”) think/behave in the way that I described due to a fixed, internal ethical standard that values other people’s autonomy and individualism. This really has little to do with values, it’s just perspective.
I realize my explanation may not be that clear, because it’s a pretty subtle distinction I think. Just send me an ask if you still have questions.
(Also, I’m still working on a response to your re-reblog of the cyanideandhappiness post. I’ve just been really busy lately, etc.)
